Derry/Londonderry Procurement Landscape
Like the rest of Northern Ireland, Derry operates under a procurement framework separate from the rest of the UK. Public bodies buy through the Central Procurement Directorate and the eSourcing NI portal, following NI Executive policy rather than the Procurement Act 2023. Suppliers in the North West need to understand this distinct system, and its strong focus on social value, to compete effectively for local and regional contracts.
Derry City and Strabane District Council leads local procurement across regeneration, environmental services, community facilities and tourism, while the Western Health and Social Care Trust and the Education Authority run larger service contracts. The city's regeneration ambitions, including the expansion of Ulster University's Magee campus, are creating a steady pipeline of construction, professional services and support opportunities.
The North West has a developing economy in digital and creative technology, advanced manufacturing and health innovation, supported by a committed drive to rebalance opportunity away from Belfast. For suppliers who can evidence local employment and community benefit, Derry offers a distinctive and less crowded market within the Northern Ireland system.
